Does Vogelsong need an internet connection?
The first identification works the moment you open the app. Downloading a region pack (photos, sounds, range maps for the species cards and Nearby) needs a connection once; after that it works in airplane mode.
Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?
No. Audio is analysed on your phone and is never sent to a server. The same is true for photos you use for Photo ID.
Why does the app ask for location?
Optional. A coarse region lets Nearby show the birds likely around you and suggests the right region pack. You can pick a region manually instead.
How do I delete my data?
Everything Vogelsong stores lives on your device. Deleting the app removes it all. If you turned on anonymous analytics, switch it off in Settings › Privacy; no identity is attached, so there is nothing to look up server-side.
How do I report a wrong identification?
Email us with the species suggested and, if you like, where and when you heard it. Please do not send the recording unless you are happy for us to listen to it.
Reporting a bug
Include the app version (Settings › About), your iPhone model and iOS version, and what happened. Screenshots help. If the app crashed and you have analytics on, the crash report has already reached us anonymously; still, a short description of what you were doing is the most useful part.
